ALZET
Implantable pumps for continuous drug delivery in preclinical research
Since the 1970s, ALZET® has pioneered implantable pump technology for controlled drug delivery in animal research. Designed for simplicity, precision, and reliability, ALZET pumps provide continuous dosing of test agents without the need for external connections or repeated handling. Used in more than 24,000 publications spanning research disciplines including cardiovascular, neuroscience, pharmacology and beyond, ALZET pumps remain the global standard for reproducible, targeted delivery in preclinical models.
Product Focus
ALZET offers miniature, implantable osmotic pumps that provide continuous, controlled delivery of compounds in preclinical models over periods ranging from hours to weeks. Whether via systemic or site-specific delivery, researchers use ALZET pumps to create and maintain disease models, administer therapeutic agents, and understand disease mechanisms. Key research applications include:
- Neuroscience & CNS Delivery — targeted intracerebral and intrathecal infusion
- Cardiovascular Research —systemic delivery of agents to model and treat diseases such as heart failure, hypertension, aneurysm, cardiomyopathy and stroke
- Oncology — systemic and targeted infusion of chemotherapeutics, as well as agents used to manage cancer-related effects and treatment-associated toxicities
- Pharmacology —precise delivery of agents for disease modeling, therapeutic intervention, and mechanism-of-action studies
ALZET also offers iPRECIO® programmable pumps for complex dosing studies, and a range of ancillary products to support targeted infusion studies including brain infusion kits, specialized catheters, and cannula holders. These products enable precise delivery across routes of administration such as intravenous, intracerebral, and intrathecal.

ALZET Osmotic Pumps
ALZET Osmotic Pumps provide precise, continuous drug delivery for preclinical research. These self-powered, fully implantable pumps deliver compounds at a constant rate, eliminating the peaks and troughs associated with repeated injections. Because no external connections are required, animals can move freely, avoiding the constraints and risks of tethered systems. With models supporting administration from one day to six weeks, ALZET pumps enable both systemic and localized delivery, enhancing reproducibility across neuroscience, cardiovascular research, oncology, and a broad range of other research disciplines.
iPRECIO Programmable Pumps
Distributed by ALZET in North America, iPRECIO implantable pumps combine programmability and refillability for complex dosing protocols in preclinical research. Researchers can define infusion schedules with variable rates, boluses and rest phases—all within the same study—while refilling the pumps in situ for extended experimental timelines. Ideal for chronic dosing and customized dosing schedules, iPRECIO pumps deliver precise, automated infusion in mice, rats and larger animals.
Brain Infusion Kits
ALZET Brain Infusion Kits enable targeted delivery of agents directly to specific regions of the brain or spinal cord in preclinical neuroscience research. Designed for seamless integration with all ALZET Osmotic Pumps, these kits support controlled CNS infusion over days to weeks—eliminating the need for repeated dosing and animal handling. Each kit includes high-quality cannulae and tubing engineered for accurate targeting and stable placement. By maintaining consistent concentrations at the site of interest, ALZET Brain Infusion Kits help researchers study complex neurological processes while reducing animal stress and simplifying experimental protocols.
Specialized Catheters
ALZET offers a range of catheters optimized for specific routes of administration and compatible with all pump models. Designed to deliver to the vasculature, spinal cord, and peritoneal cavity, these catheters are engineered for biocompatibility and ease of implantation with features such as suture anchors, stylets, beveled tips, and medical grade materials.
Cannula Holders
These stainless steel devices enable precise stereotaxic placement of brain cannulae onto the skulls of laboratory animals for CNS delivery. Specifically engineered to securely grip the removable tab on all ALZET brain infusion cannulae, they are compatible with most stereotaxic frames, including Stoelting, Kopf, WPI, MyNeuroLab, and Harvard Apparatus.
Wound Closure Systems
ALZET’s wound closure systems are designed for quick, secure, and biocompatible sealing following surgical pump implantation. Offering both mechanical and adhesive options, these systems promote healing and minimize post-operative complications while maintaining animal comfort. Optimized for small animal research, they complement ALZET’s infusion products by ensuring reliable surgical outcomes across repeated or long-term dosing studies.
