The Bussey-Saksida touchscreen system from Campden Instruments was developed as a partnership with Professors Tim Bussey and Lisa Saksida of the Translational Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at Cambridge University, who have since moved to Western University. It is a progression of the CANTAB touchscreen systems for NHP and Human subjects used in cognitive testing and diagnosis. Originally featuring a unique trapezoidal wall shape in order to focus the animal’s attention, these chambers have also been adapted for modular usage. The design of the touchscreen chamber and the tasks were both found to be crucial to consistent and accurate results. Implementation of the smooth trapeziodal walls and extra sensitive touchscreens significantly reduced the training times and rodent performance – minimizing distraction and making sure every nosepoke is detected. As well as being able to compare results with other rodent touchscreen work, the chambers also show a translatable element with both NHP and Human touchscreen Tasks.
